Senior Roll Call New Castle County

The Senior Roll Call Lifeline is a free program provided by New Castle County that calls the homes of its subscribers every day to ensure the welfare of its elderly residents, many of which who live alone. Daily phone calls are made to those enrolled, to make sure they are doing well and do not require emergency assistance. If after several attempts the calls are unsuccessful, help is sent to the home to check on the well-being of the subscriber. Senior Roll Call was started back in the mid 90’s by then, Colonel Thomas P. Gordon, and the system has helped make countless “saves” for individuals who have suffered a debilitating injury or ailment leaving them unable to help themselves. The program is supported by volunteers who are desperately needed. New Castle County Police Chief, Colonel E.M. Setting, Director of Public Safety Joseph Bryant Jr., and County Executive Thomas P. Gordon encourage residents to learn more about the program and participate. To register yourself, sign up a loved one or to register to be a volunteer, please call the New Castle County Police Community Services Senior Roll Call Line at 302-395-8159 or use ext. 8150.

Flu Information

Worried you will catch the flu? Here's ways to decrease your risk:

  1. Get immunized. Vaccinations are offered through physician offices, and many pharmacies and grocery stores. DPH is also expanding vaccination opportunities at public health clinics. For information on the flu and where Delawareans can go to get vaccinated, encourage your patients to visit www.flu.delaware.gov or call 1.800.282.8672.
  2. Wash hands with soap frequently or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, especially after you cough, sneeze or touch your face.
  3. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and dispose of the tissue immediately. If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your inner elbow. Droplets from a sneeze can travel up to six feet.
  4. Stay home when sick and do not return to work until 24 hours after a fever.
